BREAKDOWN BITCHES

While discussing the 2020 film Shirley with a friend, we realized our mutual fondness for stories in which women are driven into over-the-top breakdowns. My friend lovingly dubbed them “Breakdown Bitches.” Why? Because WE GET IT. The female’s “hysterical” meltdown has become a trope in all forms of storytelling and has been historically attributed to her nervous personality, lack of resilience, or lady parts. And more often than not, someone thinks she’s just being a bitch.

Filmmakers Amos Sussigan and Dan Lund learn to follow their own advice, as their film festival plans have been derailed amidst this pandemic. With resolute spirit and a desire to inspire, they’re moving forward with a new take on how to find success with their animated short film.

 

THE JULIA MILESTONE

For many, many years, I’ve struggled with hyper-curiosity. It’s a blessing and a curse, since it’s nearly impossible for me to find just one thing on which to focus. My personal library is the best example of this, as the titles on my bookshelves run the gamut from Ancient Egyptian history to classical painting to tarot reading to Old Hollywood biographies. Of course, I have quite the collection of cookbooks as well. And (depending on my mood) I am equally passionate about all of them.
